Mayor Georgina Tamayo has proudly called Montebello home since 1987. Her service as Mayor reflects a deep-rooted commitment to building a stronger, more resilient, and opportunity-driven community for current and future generations.

The daughter of immigrants from Mexico, Mayor Tamayo was raised with a profound respect for education, hard work, and service to others. As the eldest of four siblings in a family dedicated to public service, she understands firsthand the vital role that public institutions play in shaping strong communities.

Raised in East Los Angeles and a proud graduate of Garfield High School, Mayor Tamayo went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree and pursued graduate studies in Urban Planning at UCLA. Her academic and professional path reflects her lifelong dedication to thoughtful development, equitable housing, and sustainable community growth.

With more than two decades of experience in housing and community development, Mayor Tamayo brings substantive policy expertise to her role. She currently serves as a Programs Manager with the City of Los Angeles Housing Department and previously worked with the Los Angeles County Community Development Commission and housing-focused nonprofit organizations. Her career has centered on expanding access to housing, strengthening neighborhoods, and creating pathways to economic stability for working families.

As Mayor, Georgina Tamayo leads with vision and purpose. She is focused on ensuring fiscal responsibility, enhancing public safety, supporting local businesses, protecting neighborhood integrity, and advancing transparent, accountable governance. She believes Montebello’s future depends on strategic planning, community engagement, and policies that create opportunity while preserving the city’s unique character.

Mayor Tamayo is committed to cultivating the next generation of leaders, empowering residents to participate in civic life, and positioning Montebello as a forward-thinking city that honors its history while embracing innovation.
