The City of Montebello is upgrading its existing catch basins by installing certified full capture trash systems. Catch basins are curbside structures designed to collect and channel surface water runoff from rainfall into storm drains, which direct the water to natural bodies of water. To prevent pollution, catch basins must be equipped with certified full capture systems. These systems include two key components: automatic retractable screens (ARS) and connector pipe screens (CPS). The City has identified several catch basins for these upgrades to prevent trash-filled, polluted runoff from entering the Rio Hondo River, a channel that ultimately flows into the Pacific Ocean. By implementing these systems, the City ensures compliance with the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) regulations.
