Michael Chee
Director of Public Affairs & Information Technology

Mr. Chee is a communications leader with more than 30 years of experience working in corporate and marketing communications, crisis management, public affairs, and community relations.  Before joining the City of Montebello in 2020, he managed all external communications programs and strategies for AECOM, one of the nation's largest infrastructure management firms, across their operations in Canada, the U.S. and South America.  He has successfully managed and guided clients and companies in public, private and healthcare industries who experienced major media crises and public emergencies. 

Mr. Chee is deeply skilled working with multicultural and ethnic audience groups ranging from Spanish language audiences to Asian Pacific Islander communities.  He currently serves as a professional mentor and instructor with the Asian American Professional Association, a non-profit organization focused on helping early career professionals advance and thrive in the workplace. 

Mr. Chee is a born and raised native of Los Angeles were he attended and graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a degree in English.  He holds professional certifications from Claremont Graduate University's Drucker School of Management and the International City/County Management Association.


Public Affairs & Information Technology Department

The Public Affairs & Information Technology department is primarily responsible for all external communications, crisis communications, public information and engagement through social media, website and other digital and traditional print communication vehicles. Public Affairs responds to the general public seeking information about the City of Montebello's programs, policies, procedures, and services. The department supports City Administration, City Council and all City departments with their public communication needs and provides strategic counsel for both external and internal communications matters. Public Affairs also manages the City's technology infrastructure, website and social media content, issues press releases and produces information for public consumption and education.  Public Information Officers serve as spokespeople when responding to media and other public inquiries.
