New Amenities At City Park

New Amenities At City Park
Posted on 08/29/2022
In June 2021, the Recreation and Community Services Department embarked on a comprehensive planning process and community outreach effort to update the Parks Master Plan. We are excited to share some of the new park amenities being brought to life from this process:

Montebello City Park Multi-Use Sports Court (Now Open!)
The Multi-Use Sports Court have converted aging tennis courts at City Park into four pickle ball courts and two futsal/soccer courts, further expanding the space’s use and functionality for residents. The project also includes the installation of new fencing, lighting, and landscaping surrounding the area. The Sports Court is located behind the George Hensel Aquatic Center and adjacent to the new Fitness Court. Funded by the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District Measure A program.

Montebello City Park Fitness Court (Now Open!)
Outdoor fitness is coming to Montebello! Recommended for adults, the Fitness Court provides free and accessible work-out opportunities for beginners and athletic pros alike. Utilizing body-weight resistance equipment, visitors can challenge themselves with a circuit training workout comprised of seven zones to be completed in seven minutes. A great workout, free to the residents, this project is funded through the National Fitness Campaign and Proposition 68 Per Capita grant funds. The Fitness Court is located behind the George Hensel Aquatic Center and adjacent to the new Multi-Use Sports Court.

Grant Rea Park Community Garden (Coming 2023)
The Grant Rea Park Community Garden aims to promote healthy and sustainable lifestyles, make fresh produce available locally, encourage educational opportunities, and provide a space for Montebello community members to connect. The community garden will be located on the eastern side of Grant Rea Park near the Rio Hondo Bike Path and will feature plots available to Montebello residents. Educational gardening and cooking workshops, hosted by the Los Angeles Community Garden Council, will also be available to the public. Funded through Measure A Annual Allocation Grant funds, the City is working with the Los Angeles Community Garden Council to design the layout of the project after gathering community input this past spring. The community garden is anticipated to open to the public in early 2023.
